An established boutique Cape Town–based asset manager is seeking a high-calibre credit professional to join them a Senior Credit Portfolio Manager to take ownership of its investment grade, high yield and structured credit strategies within its income portfolios.
This is a senior, high-impact investment role reporting directly to the CIO / Head of Credit Solutions, with responsibility for driving portfolio performance, managing credit risk, engaging with clients, and strengthening the broader credit franchise. The successful candidate will combine deep fundamental credit expertise with strategic portfolio oversight and strong stakeholder engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio & Credit Strategy Leadership:
- Manage and optimise investment grade, high yield and structured credit strategies
- Analyse borrower credit risk and overall loan portfolio performance
- Conduct detailed performance reviews to identify trends, risks and opportunities
- Develop and implement credit risk mitigation strategies
- Manage credit adverse events with internal teams and external stakeholders
- Monitor economic trends and market developments impacting credit risk
Risk, Governance & Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal credit policies
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies where required
- Participate in the development of credit risk models and tools
- Review and enhance credit policies and procedures
- Ensure accurate documentation and governance of credit decisions
- Incorporate ESG and sustainability factors into investment decision-making
Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Prepare high-quality investment reports and presentations
- Deliver timely management reporting to support decision-making
- Attend client meetings and present credit strategies and performance
- Build and maintain relationships with issuers, banks, corporates and market participants
Core Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in credit portfolio management or related roles
- Experience across investment grade, high yield and structured credit strategies
- Strong understanding of credit ratings methodologies and leveraged finance
- Proven ability to analyse financial statements and build financial models
- Experience monitoring and managing multiple credit portfolios
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks in credit markets
- Excellent presentation and stakeholder engagement skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- CA(SA) and/or CFA Charterholder
- Experience in asset management, banking, private credit, rating agencies or leveraged finance
- Strong academic track record
